ABOUT MS KHANDWALA

Mona Khandwala is an award-winning Consultant Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic surgeon at the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, where she is the Oculoplastic Lead. Her private practice is based at the Spire Alexandra Hospital,Walderslade, KIMS Hospital, Maidstone and the Nuffield Hospital, Tunbridge Wells.

With extensive experience spanning more than 20 years, Ms Khandwala specialises in modern cataract surgery, lid surgery, cosmetic lid surgery, management of the dry and watery eye and thyroid eye disease. She has specialist training in oculoplastic surgery of the eyelids and surrounding structures, including skin cancers, as well as surgery of the tear drainage system. Ms Khandwala has performed and taught a vast number of specialist operations  and has been recognised internationally for her work.

After completing her ophthalmic training in Leeds and the South East of England

 

 

Ms Khandwala undertook two further fellowships in eyelid, lacrimal and cosmetic surgery at Maidstone Hospital and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

 

During this period, she was an Honorary Lecturer of the University of East Anglia and pursued research in cataract surgery and newer ways of imaging eyelid skin cancers.

Ms Khandwala has a keen interest in medical education and training, leading  her to become an Examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, a panelist for medical school admissions at University College London and for ST1 national  Ophthalmology recruitment, as well as a Ophthalmology College Tutor  at Maidstone hospital.

 

Ms Khandwala has produced more than 25 publications for international journals and delivered specialist lectures both nationally and internationally.
